Trooper Revives Driver After Car Crashes Into Liquor Store in Augusta
AUGUSTA, Ga. – A driver was revived early Wednesday after a single-vehicle crash sent a car into the front of a liquor store on Milledgeville Road, prompting lifesaving action by a Georgia State Patrol trooper, authorities said.
The crash occurred at about 12:30 a.m. Jan. 22 at 2423 Milledgeville Road, where a vehicle left the roadway and struck the front of King Wine and Spirits, according to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Division.
As deputies were being dispatched, Brandon Crawford of the Georgia State Patrol arrived on scene and found the driver unresponsive and not breathing. Crawford administered Narcan and began CPR. The driver regained consciousness and became alert but agitated, a reaction authorities said can occur following overdose reversal.
The driver suffered minor injuries from the collision and from the airbag deployment, and investigators noted he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. He was transported to AUMC Wellstar, where medical staff administered an additional dose of Narcan. Authorities said the driver is expected to make a full recovery.
Before being transported, the driver admitted to taking Percocet, according to investigators. The case remains under investigation under case number 26-015007.
“We are blessed to have many Georgia State Patrol troopers working within our area and regularly augmenting our Traffic Division,” said Lewis Blanchard. “Trooper Crawford did a great job today, and we are proud of his service within our area.”
Troop Commander Brad Eagler has been notified of Crawford’s actions. The sheriff’s office said the trooper’s rapid response and decisive measures directly contributed to saving the driver’s life.
