Atlanta Officer Shoots Armed Man Who Refused Commands; Suspect Hospitalized
ATLANTA, Ga. – The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is looking into an officer-involved shooting in Atlanta on December 24, 2025, at the request of the Atlanta Police Department.
According to preliminary information, Joshua Knox, 31, of Atlanta, was shot and injured after refusing to comply with an off-duty APD officer’s commands. The incident occurred at approximately 11:50 p.m. near The Commons apartment complex in the 3000 block of Middleton Road.
Residents had alerted the officer to a possible shooting in the area. Upon responding, the officer encountered Knox armed with a gun. Despite repeated verbal commands to drop the weapon, Knox did not comply. The officer then discharged his firearm, striking Knox at least once.
Knox was conscious and alert as other officers provided aid. He was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment. No officers were injured during the incident.
The GBI is conducting an independent investigation, and upon its completion, the case will be forwarded to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office for review.
