A Decatur woman has been sentenced to 30 years in prison after admitting to fatally shooting her husband in 2022.

Prosecutors said Iesha Zenobia Harmon, 45, pleaded guilty on Monday, December 1, 2025, to voluntary manslaughter and two firearm-related charges in the death of her husband, 44-year-old Shedrick Harmon. Harmon previously resided in Columbus, GA.

DeKalb County police were called to the couple’s home on Charleston Terrace around 3 a.m. on September 19, 2022. Officers found Shedrick unresponsive with a gunshot wound to his upper torso. He was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

Iesha told police the shooting was an accident. She claimed she picked up a firearm incorrectly while handling laundry and two guns that were on the bed, causing it to discharge.

Investigators didn’t buy the explanation. According to prosecutors, text messages, witness accounts, and the couple’s history pointed to a long pattern of domestic violence, substance abuse, and infidelity. Friends and relatives also reported that Iesha had threatened Shedrick with a gun more than once.

The case was handled by the Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Unit at the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office. Judge Courtney Johnson accepted the guilty plea and issued the 30-year sentence.

Senior Assistant District Attorney Ashley Johnson led the prosecution, with support from Senior Assistant District Attorney Miriam Broussard, Investigator Justus, and Victim Advocate Veronica Pelaez-Maya. Detective Wright with the DeKalb County Police Department headed the investigation.
