Teen Sentenced to 25 Years After Drive-By Shooting Into Loganville Home

Walton County, GA — A 17-year-old will serve prison time as an adult after admitting to a drive-by shooting that sent multiple rounds into a Loganville home, including a child’s bedroom.

Last week, Savion Jones pleaded guilty to Drive-by Shooting, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, First- and Second-Degree Criminal Damage to Property, and two counts of Theft by Taking.

The charges stem from December 13, 2024, when Jones, then 16, stole a family member’s car and firearm and drove to a neighborhood in unincorporated Loganville. Around 11:30 p.m., he fired nine rounds toward a residence. Several bullets struck the house, two of which entered a child’s bedroom. Two vehicles parked outside were also hit. No one in the home was injured.

Deputies with the Walton County Sheriff’s Office responded quickly. Using FLOCK license plate reader cameras and nearby surveillance footage, investigators identified the vehicle involved. That led them directly to Jones, who later confessed. He told investigators he believed he was targeting a different house and that the victims were not the intended ones.

Because Jones was a minor at the time, the case initially began in Juvenile Court. Prosecutors moved to transfer it to Superior Court due to the seriousness of the crimes. Jones originally planned to contest the transfer, but ultimately agreed. Prosecutors noted that if the crime had occurred after April 28 of this year, it would have automatically been handled in Superior Court.

Jones was sentenced to 25 years, with the first 8 to be served in prison and the remainder on probation. Prosecutors said the sentence reflects both the severity of the conduct and Jones’s age and guilty plea.

Senior ADA Jacqueline Fletcher, ADA Vanessa Webber, Investigator Denney Wells, Senior Victim Advocate Donna Brandenburg, and Senior Legal Assistant Melanie Sims handled the case.

In a statement, the District Attorney’s Office urged families to use this incident as a reminder to young people of the real and lasting consequences of gun violence. They noted the fear inflicted on the family inside the home and how close the case came to ending in tragedy.
