Atlanta Police Recover Illegal Machine Gun Conversion Device During Vehicle Break-In Investigation

ATLANTA, Ga. – Two suspects were arrested and two juveniles were detained after Atlanta police recovered an illegally modified firearm and burglary tools while investigating a series of vehicle break-ins.

According to the Atlanta Police Department, officers responded on July 30 to the 300 block of McGill Park Avenue Northeast after receiving reports that four males were attempting to open the door handles of parked vehicles.

A witness provided officers with descriptions of the suspects, who were reportedly seen entering a vehicle before trying multiple car doors in the area.

After searching the neighborhood, officers located the four individuals walking nearby.

During the investigation, officers recovered a firearm that had been modified with an illegal conversion device, commonly known as a “switch,” allowing the weapon to function as a fully automatic firearm. Investigators also recovered several tools commonly associated with vehicle break-ins.

Police identified the adult suspects as 19-year-old Alex King and 18-year-old Brandon Lewis.

King was charged with entering an automobile, possession of tools for the commission of a crime and possession of marijuana. Investigators also discovered he had an active warrant issued by the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.

Lewis was charged with entering an automobile, possession of tools for the commission of a crime, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Both suspects were transported to the Fulton County Jail.

Police also detained a 15-year-old and a 16-year-old in connection with the investigation. The juveniles were later released to their parents, who were issued citations for curfew violations.

The investigation remains ongoing.
