Clayton County Jury Convicts Man in Roadside Shooting, Sentenced to 25 Years

JONESBORO, Ga. – A Clayton County jury has found Marvin Gordon guilty of aggravated assault, aggravated battery, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony for a shooting that occurred in June 2023.

According to the District Attorney’s office, the incident occurred on June 21, 2023, when the victim picked up Gordon to return his belongings. While driving, Gordon allegedly argued with the victim, pointed a firearm at her, and shot her in the leg after she was unable to stop the vehicle immediately. The victim fell onto the roadway, and witnesses at the scene applied pressure to her wound until law enforcement arrived.

A witness reported seeing a large male exit the passenger side of the vehicle, point a firearm at the victim, and leave the scene. Prosecutors also introduced a 911 call in which Gordon admitted to shooting the victim and fleeing in her vehicle. He was later apprehended in Florida.

The trial, led by Assistant District Attorney Sheila Francois with Deputy Chief Assistant DA La’Carrian Blount as co-counsel, began on June 2, 2025, and concluded June 6, 2025. Judge Aaron Mason presided over the case and sentenced Gordon to 25 years, with 20 years to be served in confinement.

District Attorney Tasha M. Mosley said the conviction removes a violent offender from the community and hopes it provides comfort to the victim.
