Arrest Made After Stolen Vehicle Stop on I-95; Driver Also Suspect in South Carolina Homicide
KINGSLAND, Ga. – November 17, 2025 — A traffic stop on Interstate 95 led Kingsland police to arrest a man driving a stolen SUV, who investigators later learned was also wanted in connection with a homicide in South Carolina.
Earlier that morning, a Kingsland Police Department patrol officer stopped a vehicle traveling well above the posted speed limit on I-95 southbound. The vehicle, a 2021 Kia Sorento, was quickly confirmed to have been reported stolen out of the North Charleston Police Department jurisdiction.
The driver, identified as Luis Oscar Ocanto, was detained after the stolen-vehicle verification. As KPD investigators coordinated with North Charleston detectives, they were notified that Ocanto was a suspect in a homicide involving his girlfriend that occurred earlier that same day.
A search of the SUV turned up several pieces of evidence, including multiple phones, items belonging to the victim, and other personal property relevant to the South Carolina investigation. All crime-related evidence was collected and turned over to NCPD detectives.
Ocanto was booked into the Camden County Detention Center on charges related to theft of a motor vehicle. Homicide-related charges will be pursued by the North Charleston Police Department.
KPD stated that no further details will be released at this time while both jurisdictions continue their investigations.
