Atlanta Police Arrest Homicide Suspect Armed with Modified Fully Automatic Handgun

Atlanta, GA – On October 28, 2025, officers with the Atlanta Police Department’s Auto Crimes Enforcement (ACE) Unit apprehended a wanted homicide suspect following a high-risk encounter in southwest Atlanta.

Officers were alerted to the presence of a homicide suspect driving in the area of Pickfair Way SW near Ashwood Avenue NW. Upon locating the vehicle, officers used their patrol cars to box it in. The suspect, later identified as 37-year-old Keith Hawkins, rammed police vehicles in an attempt to escape before abandoning his car and fleeing on foot.

During the pursuit, Hawkins was armed with a handgun that had been illegally modified to fire automatically. He threw the weapon into a nearby wooded area but was quickly taken into custody by officers.

Hawkins was wanted for his role in a homicide that occurred on April 9, 2025, at 700 Eloise Street SE. He now faces multiple charges, including Murder, Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon (two counts), Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, Possession of a Machine Gun, Willful Obstruction of Law Enforcement Officers, and Operating a Vehicle Without Insurance.

He was booked into the Fulton County Jail following his arrest.

The Atlanta Police Department reminds the public that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
