Chatham County Police Investigate Stabbing Following Altercation at Walmart

UPDATE: According to the CCPD, the 18-year-old that was stabbed has died as a result of his injuries.

Chatham County, GA – The Chatham County Police Department (CCPD) is investigating an altercation that led to a stabbing at the Walmart on Highway 80 Thursday evening.

At approximately 5:50 p.m., officers responded to the store and found an 18-year-old male suffering from multiple stab wounds and lacerations. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he remains in treatment.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a 49-year-old man was exiting Walmart with his shopping cart when the 18-year-old kicked the cart as he passed by. A physical altercation followed, resulting in the younger man sustaining serious injuries.

Detectives have interviewed the 49-year-old man involved, as well as multiple witnesses. The Chatham County Police Department continues to investigate and will consult with the Chatham County District Attorney’s Office to determine any appropriate charges.
