Registered Sex Offender Arrested on Trafficking and Grooming Charges in Floyd County

FLOYD COUNTY, Ga.—A collaborative investigation between the Floyd County Police Department and the Polk County Police Department has led to the arrest of a registered sex offender on multiple felony charges, including human trafficking.
65-year-old Garry D. Hand of Cedartown, Georgia, was taken into custody on October 13, 2025.
Investigation Details and New Charges
The investigation began in early August after officers were alerted to inappropriate contact between Hand and a 14-year-old minor female. Further investigation revealed that Hand had contact with multiple minor females and males over a span of several years.
Authorities learned that Hand was engaged in grooming the minor females by providing them with gifts, including food, electronics, clothing, alcohol, and vaping devices.
Hand was originally charged in August with grooming, sexual battery, and child molestation. The new charges filed on October 13, 2025, include:
- Trafficking of Persons
- Photographing of Minors by a Registered Sex Offender
- Grooming
The Floyd County Police Department stressed that keeping children safe is their priority number one and expressed gratitude for the successful collaboration with the Polk County Police Department.
