Bibb County Deputy Cites Driver Under Georgia’s Super Speeder Law

BIBB COUNTY, GA — A Bibb County Sheriff’s Office H.E.A.T. Unit sergeant recently stopped a driver traveling 87 miles per hour in a 55-mph zone on Hawkinsville Road near Barnes Ferry Road.

Sgt. Tillman cited the driver for speeding, a violation that falls under Georgia’s Super Speeder Law. The law imposes additional fines and license points on drivers ticketed for traveling 75 mph or more on two-lane roads or 85 mph or more on other roads and highways.

The H.E.A.T. Unit, which focuses on addressing hazardous driving behaviors, emphasized the dangers of speeding. Officials noted that crash forces double with every 10-mph increase above 50 mph, and excessive speed reduces the time available to react and avoid collisions.

Authorities urged motorists to drive responsibly, stressing that speeding endangers drivers, passengers, and others on the road. The sheriff’s office reminded the public that it is better to arrive late than not arrive at all, encouraging drivers to slow down, buckle up, and avoid distractions.
