Former Coweta County Corrections Employee Arrested for $100K Commissary Theft

COWETA COUNTY, Ga. — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has arrested 49-year-old Lakina Gay of Newnan on five counts of Theft by Taking following an investigation into missing funds from the Coweta County Department of Corrections.
On November 3, 2023, the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office requested GBI assistance after discovering discrepancies involving commissary funds at the Coweta County Prison.
Investigators determined that between 2019 and 2023, Gay, who worked as an office manager, allegedly misappropriated between $50,000 and $100,000 from the prison’s commissary account.
On Wednesday, August 20, 2025, Gay was arrested and booked into the Coweta County Jail.
