Man Killed, Woman Injured in Shooting at Columbus Apartment Complex

COLUMBUS, Ga. – On Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at approximately 2:49 p.m., Columbus Police officers responded to the 4300 block of Warm Springs Road at The Lakes Apartments in reference to a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers found an unresponsive Black male, later identified as 28-year-old Martavis McKinnie, lying on the ground. EMS attempted life-saving measures but were unable to resuscitate him. McKinnie was pronounced deceased at 3:31 p.m. by Deputy Coroner Dustin Harrelson.

A female at the scene was located inside the apartment with an injury. She was transported to a local hospital, treated, and later released.

Preliminary information indicates the incident was domestic-related. The Violent Crimes Unit is leading the investigation.
