Three Arrested, Two Wanted After Group Flees Rincon Walmart With Stolen Merchandise

RINCON, Ga. — On Saturday, August 2, 2025, Rincon Police officers responded to a shoplifting in progress at Walmart that led to a physical struggle, multiple arrests, and the identification of five suspects, all from Savannah.

At approximately 2:00 p.m., Walmart staff contacted central dispatch to report multiple individuals shoplifting and fleeing the store in a red Jeep. While one Rincon officer searched for the vehicle, two others arrived on scene and located two suspects in the parking lot near rows 7 and 8.

One male suspect, wearing a hooded sweatshirt, complied with officers’ commands and was detained without incident. The second male suspect, who was on his phone, initially ignored commands and attempted to walk away. When the officer grabbed his wrist and escorted him toward the patrol car, the suspect resisted, shoved the officer, and a physical struggle ensued.

Despite repeated verbal commands, the suspect continued to resist. The officer delivered multiple strikes and deployed a taser to gain control. At one point, the suspect reached for the officer’s taser. An Effingham County Sheriff’s Office deputy arrived to assist, and the suspect was eventually handcuffed and secured. Both the officer and the suspect sustained minor injuries and were treated on scene.

While officers managed the scene, a female approached and began yelling, demanding the release of the male suspect. After refusing orders to leave, she was warned, then arrested for obstruction following a struggle with four officers. No additional force was used beyond handcuffing.

The cooperative suspect detained earlier was released at the scene. The two combative individuals were transported to the Effingham County Jail on obstruction charges.

Later review of Walmart’s surveillance footage revealed that five suspects arrived in a red Jeep and entered the store. They were seen filling two carts with household goods and appliances. Some suspects exited with one loaded cart and placed the items into the Jeep. When others attempted to leave with the second cart, they were confronted by store staff and fled.

Rincon Police detectives have since identified all five suspects and issued felony shoplifting warrants. None of the suspects reside in Rincon; all are from Savannah.
