Two Arrested in Franklin County Home Invasion and Assault

FRANKLIN COUNTY, GA – Two Toccoa men, Austin King, 28, and Joel Travis Smith, 40, were arrested early Sunday morning, July 13, in connection with a home invasion and assault on Fairview Farms Circle.

At approximately 4:12 a.m., the 911 center received a call reporting the home invasion and assault. Deputies responded to the scene, located an assaulted victim, and transported them to Sacred Heart Hospital via Franklin County EMS.

Investigators were called to the scene and, through their investigation, identified both King and Smith as suspects. Arrest warrants were obtained, and the suspects were located and taken into custody. They are currently being held in the Franklin County Jail.

Both individuals face multiple felony charges, including:

  • Burglary 1st Degree
  • Armed Robbery
  • False Imprisonment
  • Aggravated Assault
  • Felony Home Invasion
  • Aggravated Battery

Sheriff Scott Andrews commended the efforts of his deputies and the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office, stating, “Their efforts and commitment are to be commended! Great teamwork by all! ‘Tip of the Hat’.”

This is an ongoing investigation, and authorities anticipate more arrests and charges.
