Clayton County Man Sentenced to Life Without Parole for Deadly Attempted Robbery

JONESBORO, GA — Clayton County District Attorney Tasha M. Mosley announced the conviction of Lorenzo Roberts, who was found guilty on all counts related to a violent attempted robbery that left a man dead.

Following a bench trial, Superior Court Judge Shana Rooks Malone delivered the verdict and sentenced Roberts to life without the possibility of parole, plus 40 years to run consecutively.

According to evidence presented during trial, Roberts and another individual attempted to rob Mr. Martir at his trailer on the evening of July 23, 2024. When Martir refused to let them inside, the suspects opened fire through the door, discharging eight rounds. Martir was struck four times and later died from his injuries.

The prosecution was led by Deputy Chief Assistant District Attorney Jamal Williams, with Assistant District Attorney Lauren Young assisting. Investigators Mike Hooks and Matthew Simonds, along with Victim Advocate Nerissa Sims, supported the case.

District Attorney Mosley stated the conviction reaffirms the office’s commitment to seeking justice and accountability.
