Man Dies from Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound After Standoff in Atlanta; Child Found Unharmed

On Wednesday, July 3, 2025, at approximately 1:10 a.m., officers responded to a report of shots fired at a residence located at 136 Burbank Drive SW. Upon arrival, officers heard a single gunshot coming from inside the home and immediately located a woman and a child outside. Both were moved to safety.
The woman identified herself as the wife of the suspect, who remained inside the home. She informed officers that her 8-year-old son was still inside with the suspect, who was reportedly experiencing a mental health crisis following the death of a family member.
Officers secured the area and requested the assistance of APD Task Force Officers and SWAT. Multiple attempts to contact the suspect using a loudspeaker were unsuccessful. Once SWAT units arrived, they obtained search and arrest warrants before entering the residence.
Inside the home, officers found the suspect deceased from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The 8-year-old child was found unharmed in a separate room. No additional injuries were reported.
The investigation is ongoing.
