Homicide Suspect Dies by Suicide After Leading Police Chase in Cook County

Daquona Verdale Peede, 31, of Manassas, Virginia, a suspect in a Henry County homicide investigation, died by suicide on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, after leading Georgia State Patrol (GSP) and Cook County Sheriff’s Office deputies on a vehicle pursuit.

At approximately 7:20 a.m., GSP and the Cook County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop Peede’s vehicle just south of Mile Marker 34 on Interstate 75 in Cook County, based on a Be On the Lookout (BOLO) alert from Henry County. Peede failed to stop, initiating a chase on I-75. A GSP Trooper successfully employed a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver to end the pursuit. As the trooper and deputies approached the vehicle, Peede shot himself. He later died at a local hospital.

Peede’s body has been transported to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office in Macon, where an autopsy will be performed. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is investigating the death at the request of the Cook County Sheriff’s Office.
