High-Speed Chase in Jones County Ends with Suspect Found Hiding Under House

A high-speed pursuit through Jones County on Monday ended with the arrest of Warrick Wayne McElroy, who fled from deputies and attempted to hide beneath a home.
According to the Jones County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Langston was patrolling near Highway 49 and Pioneer Road when he observed a red Mercedes with an illegally tinted windshield and a license plate cover. As the deputy initiated a traffic stop, the driver initially appeared to comply but then abruptly swerved back onto Highway 49 and accelerated.
Deputy Langston activated his siren, but the driver refused to stop. The suspect turned on his hazard lights and began weaving through traffic at high speeds, passing vehicles on a solid yellow line and reaching speeds of up to 115 mph.
The chase continued through heavy traffic and residential areas. Near Mattie Wells Drive, the suspect left the roadway, abandoned the car, and fled on foot.
Deputies received an anonymous tip that led them to a nearby residence, where McElroy was found hiding in a crawl space under the house. He was taken into custody without incident.
McElroy now faces multiple charges, including:
- Felony fleeing and attempting to elude
- Obstruction of an officer
- Possession of drug-related objects
He also received numerous traffic citations, such as:
- Reckless driving
- Driving with a suspended license
- Speeding
- Multiple other violations
The investigation remains ongoing.
