Brunswick Man Arrested After Shotgun Attack Injures Woman Near Hotel and Bar

A 32-year-old Brunswick man is in custody after allegedly firing multiple shotgun rounds that struck a woman and endangered three others, including two children, during a Friday night shooting near Mulligans and the Royal Inn Hotel.

At approximately 9:43 p.m. on May 23, officers with the Glynn County Police Department responded to reports of a shooting and found an adult female with a gunshot wound to the lower abdomen and hip area. Officers administered first aid until Glynn County Fire Rescue and EMS arrived.

The woman was taken to Southeast Georgia Health System’s Brunswick Campus before being airlifted to UF Health Shands Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. She remains in stable condition.

An investigation by Glynn County detectives identified the suspect as Brandon Betts, a resident of Brunswick. Authorities determined Betts had fired multiple shots from a shotgun toward the woman, her two children—ages 9 and 7—and another adult male.

Glynn County Patrol officers located Betts later that evening and arrested him without incident. He has been charged with:

  • Four counts of Aggravated Assault
  • One count of Possession of a Firearm or Knife During the Commission of or Attempt to Commit a Crime

Additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.

Anyone with information related to the case is urged to contact the Glynn County Police Department at (912) 554-3645 or anonymously via Silent Witness at (912) 264-1333.
