Rome Police Officer’s Child Dies in Tragic Accident

The Rome Police Department is mourning the loss of a juvenile, the child of one of their officers, who died in a tragic motor vehicle accident on Thursday, April 17th.
Emergency personnel responded to a call in the Silver Creek area of Floyd County at 3:54 p.m. Despite immediate life-saving efforts at the scene and at a local hospital, the young victim succumbed to his injuries.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is leading the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident and will release any further details. Counselors from the Floyd County School System will be available to provide support to students and staff affected by this devastating loss.
Rome Police Chief Denise Downer-McKinney expressed the department’s profound grief, stating, “This is an unimaginable loss for one of our own. Our department is heartbroken and stands united in grief with the family. We ask the community to lift them up in every possible way during this incredibly difficult time.”
Out of respect for the family’s privacy, no additional details regarding the accident or the child’s identity are being released at this time.
