Man Arrested for DUI After Rear-Ending Vehicle, Attempting to Flee in Jones County

A North Carolina man was arrested early this morning, February 14, 2025, following a two-car accident on Gray Highway near Creekside.

Deputy Patterson of the Jones County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and made contact with the driver of the vehicle that rear-ended another car. The driver explained that he had struck the vehicle after it suddenly stopped in the road.

When Deputy Patterson approached the other vehicle involved in the crash, the driver attempted to drive away despite significant damage to the rear end of the car. After stopping the vehicle, Deputy Patterson detected a strong odor of marijuana and spoke with the driver, later identified as Rayshawn Tenale Shipman of North Carolina. Shipman claimed he had no knowledge of the accident and questioned why he had been stopped.

Shipman was taken into custody and charged with DUI and Driving While License Suspended. He also has a hold from the ATF for weapons offenses. Shipman remains in custody. The driver of the other vehicle involved in the accident was transported to the hospital for treatment of his injuries.
