Man Killed, Deputy Injured in Officer-Involved Shooting in Ringgold, GA
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting that resulted in the death of 32-year-old Dameion Coonrod of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and the injury of a Catoosa County Sheriff’s deputy.
The incident occurred on December 15, 2024, at approximately 10:25 p.m., when Catoosa County deputies and a Georgia State Patrol trooper responded to a 911 call reporting gunfire outside a residence. Upon meeting the caller, deputies determined the shooting took place at a home in the 600 block of Karen Drive in Ringgold.
Law enforcement approached the property and confronted Coonrod, who attempted to flee the scene in a Genesis SUV. A deputy deployed a Taser, but Coonrod continued to drive while a deputy stood near the vehicle. In response, the deputy fired his weapon, and additional shots were fired by another deputy and the trooper.
The SUV then traveled into the front yard, colliding with a tree and the house. A firearm was recovered inside the vehicle.
Coonrod, who was struck by gunfire, was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. His body has been sent to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
A woman in the front passenger seat of the SUV was unharmed during the incident.
The injured deputy was treated at a local hospital and released.
The GBI is conducting an independent investigation into the shooting. Once completed, the findings will be submitted to the Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review.
