Cairo Woman Charged in Multi-Million Dollar Theft from Thomasville Law Firm
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has arrested Melissa Mirick, 50, of Cairo, Georgia, on eight felony counts of Forgery in the Third Degree and one felony count of Theft by Taking.
The Thomas County Sheriff’s Office sought GBI assistance on August 8, 2024, after discovering misappropriated funds from South Georgia Law Associates, LLC, located in Thomasville.
Investigators determined that Mirick, employed as the law firm’s office manager, had full access and control over the firm’s financial accounts. The investigation revealed that over several years, Mirick allegedly transferred funds from the law firm to GFA Design/Build Contractors, LLC, a business in Cairo owned by Mirick and her husband. The estimated amount of the theft is believed to total several million dollars.
Mirick was arrested on December 9, 2024, and booked into the Thomas County Jail.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities anticipate additional charges. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the GBI Thomasville Office at 229-225-4090.
