River Edge Behavioral Health to Open New Support Center on Former Blighted Property in Macon-Bibb
River Edge Behavioral Health is transforming a once-abandoned motel site in Macon-Bibb into a new Peer Support and Community Adult Center, providing a fresh start for individuals in need of mental health support. The property was demolished by Macon-Bibb’s Public Works as part of the city’s “Blight Fight” initiative to revitalize unsafe areas.
“This Center will give people a new beginning,” said Mayor Lester Miller.
The new 35,000-square-foot facility, developed with the help of Stafford Builders and Sheridan Construction, will cater to adults with mental health and psychiatric challenges, offering a safe space for support, education, and community integration. Facilities include large group rooms, a teaching kitchen, calming rooms, and an inclusive gymnasium, aiming to help participants develop daily living skills and enhance independence.
“The center will enable individuals to gain a deeper level of independence,” said River Edge CEO Cass Hatcher. “Our goal is to foster self-determination through ongoing education and skill-building.”
With services available for adults 18 and over, including those with developmental disabilities, River Edge will provide access to peer support groups, vocational programs, and volunteer opportunities. The center is set to be a welcoming resource, bringing stability and support to Macon-Bibb’s adult community members facing behavioral health challenges.
