Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Offering Free Two-Day Handgun Safety Course in Macon

MACON, Ga. – The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office will offer a free two-day firearms safety and training course in October for residents interested in learning about handgun safety, secure firearm storage and Georgia gun laws.

The course begins Monday, Oct. 19, at the Sheriff’s Outreach Section office at 774 Hazel Street in Macon. The second session will be held Tuesday, Oct. 20, at the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Training Facility at 1166 Jackson Street.

Both sessions are scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m.

During the first night, participants will receive instruction on essential firearm safety practices, secure storage and current Georgia firearm laws. Attendees will also have opportunities to ask questions during the course.

The second night will include hands-on handgun familiarization and an opportunity for participants to fire their own handguns at the training facility.

Participants must be at least 21 years old, legally permitted to possess a firearm and bring their own handgun and ammunition. The sheriff’s office said the course is specifically intended for handgun safety and familiarization, so participants should not bring other types of firearms.

There is no charge to attend.
