Jones County Man Accused of Smoking Crack Cocaine in Front of Deputy During Roadside Encounter

GRAY, Ga. – A Jones County man was arrested after deputies said he smoked what appeared to be crack cocaine inside a vehicle while a deputy stood outside trying to speak with him.

The encounter happened Saturday night, Sept. 12, after Jones County Sheriff’s Office Cpl. Morris responded to a suspicious vehicle that had been parked along Highway 57 for an extended period.

Morris found a man sitting in the passenger seat and attempted to speak with him, according to the sheriff’s office. The man refused to unlock the vehicle or roll down a window.

As the deputy remained outside, authorities said the man prepared a pipe and began smoking what appeared to be crack cocaine in front of Morris.

Deputy Humphries arrived to assist, and the man eventually unlocked the vehicle and was removed by deputies.

When deputies asked why he had been sitting along the highway, the sheriff’s office said he responded, “Getting high.”

Deputies identified the man as Bradley Baker and took him into custody.

Baker was charged with possession of a controlled substance and other related offenses. The sheriff’s office did not specify the additional charges or disclose the amount of suspected drugs recovered.
