Former Baldwin Accountant Accused of Using City Bank Account to Help Buy $1.7 Million Home
BALDWIN, Ga. – A former City of Baldwin staff accountant has been arrested after investigators say she altered financial documents and used the city’s bank account as proof of funds while attempting to purchase a $1.7 million home.
Whitni Brooke Davis, 35, of Cornelia, is charged with five counts of computer forgery, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
Davis was arrested Aug. 31 and booked into the Habersham County Detention Center.
The investigation began Feb. 11 when the Baldwin Police Department asked the GBI to investigate suspected forgery involving Davis, who previously worked as a staff accountant for the city.
GBI agents determined Davis created, altered or deleted information on multiple documents as part of an effort to purchase a home valued at $1.7 million.
Investigators said Davis used the City of Baldwin’s bank account as proof that she had the funds available for the purchase.
Authorities have not disclosed how Davis allegedly gained access to or presented the city’s banking information, whether any city money was actually transferred, or whether the home purchase was completed.
