Man Arrested, Charged with Murder After Deadly Athens Shooting

ATHENS, Ga. — A 22-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with a shooting that left a teenager dead and another person injured, according to the Athens-Clarke County Police Department.

Officers responded around 5:49 a.m. May 8 to reports of gunfire in the area of Rowe Road. At the same time, two victims arrived at a local hospital with gunshot wounds.

Authorities said a 17-year-old male from Athens died from his injuries. An 18-year-old female sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators determined the shooting occurred in the 100 block of Rowe Road.

22-year-old Jakel Javaunte Arnold of Athens, was arrested and charged with felony murder, malice murder, four counts of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
