Army Veteran Sentenced After Stealing Humvee, Crashing Into Fort Stewart Building
SAVANNAH, Ga. — A retired U.S. Army staff sergeant has been sentenced to federal prison after stealing a military vehicle and crashing it into an occupied building at Fort Stewart, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office Southern District of Georgia.
Treamon Dominic Lacy, 42, of Warner Robins, was sentenced to 33 months in prison following his conviction on charges of theft of government property and damage to government property. He was also ordered to pay $579,868 in restitution and will serve three years of supervised release after his prison term.
According to prosecutors, Lacy, a retired Army staff sergeant, used his familiarity with military operations to gain access to Fort Stewart in July 2023. He entered a motor pool, stole a High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle, commonly known as a Humvee, and drove it to the headquarters of the U.S. Army’s Third Infantry Division.
Authorities said Lacy then drove the vehicle into the front entrance of the building, causing significant structural damage. No injuries were reported.
Military police took Lacy into custody at the scene. He was later indicted by a federal grand jury in August 2023 and convicted at trial in September 2025.
“As a former servicemember, Treamon Lacy used his knowledge of operations … to steal a vehicle and crash through the front doors of an occupied building,” said U.S. Attorney Margaret E. Heap.
The case was investigated by the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Bradley R. Thompson and Michael Z. Spitulnik.
