Savannah Officer Shoots Armed Robbery Suspect Outside Convenience Store
SAVANNAH, Ga. — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is examining an officer-involved shooting that occurred during an armed robbery early Monday morning in Savannah, authorities said.
The incident happened around 12:30 a.m. April 20, 2026, at a Parker’s convenience store located at 2004 Beech Street.
According to preliminary information, a Savannah Police Department officer arrived at the store and realized a robbery was in progress. Investigators said the suspect, later identified as 29-year-old Raheem Ashanti Williams, was inside pointing a gun at a store clerk.
Authorities said Williams noticed the officer and ran out of the store. As he exited, investigators said he pointed the gun at the officer, who then fired his weapon.
Williams fled on foot and was later found in a ditch a short distance away suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was transported to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition. No officers were injured during the incident.
The GBI said it is investigating both the officer-involved shooting and the armed robbery that preceded it.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. Once complete, the case will be turned over to the Eastern Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review.
