Rifle-Wielding Suspect Running Through Coweta Neighborhood Captured

COWETA COUNTY, Ga. — Two people were detained Sunday after deputies responded to reports of an armed man running through a neighborhood with a rifle and later found bullet holes, narcotics and alcohol inside a nearby home, according to the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were called around 10:30 a.m. April 19 to the area of Sandstone Drive in Sharpsburg, GA, after receiving multiple reports of an armed individual running through the neighborhood.

Responding deputies quickly located and detained a person carrying a rifle. Authorities said the individual was uncooperative.

After determining the person lived in the area, deputies went to an associated residence and made contact with a second individual, who told deputies there could be deceased people inside the home, according to investigators.

Deputies searched the residence and found no victims and no evidence anyone had been struck by gunfire. However, authorities said they found multiple bullet holes throughout the home, including some that appeared to have exited toward neighboring residences.

Investigators also found narcotics and alcohol inside the home, and authorities said both detained individuals showed signs of impairment.

Both remained detained Sunday as investigators with the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Unit continued processing the scene.

During the investigation, deputies also heard additional gunfire in the surrounding area, prompting requests for drone, K9 and helicopter support to search the area.

Authorities said the additional gunfire is believed to be unrelated to the original incident.

The investigation remains ongoing.
