Spalding County Deputy Jailed, Denied Bond After Family Violence Allegations
SPALDING COUNTY, Ga. — A Spalding County deputy has been arrested, denied bond, and jailed after a criminal investigation into family violence allegations, according to the Spalding County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Darrell Dix said Major John Corley received an allegation on April 15, 2026, accusing Deputy Philip Ramsammy of family violence and brought the matter to his attention.
Sheriff Dix assigned Captain Vicki Massengale, who heads the Office of Professional Standards, to begin an internal investigation. Authorities said within about four hours, the inquiry reached a point where investigators believed a criminal investigation was warranted.
On April 16, Sheriff Dix directed the internal investigation to stop and assigned Investigator Krysha Roberts to conduct a separate criminal investigation, noting the two investigations must be handled independently by law.
According to the sheriff’s office, during an interview with the complainant, investigators developed probable cause that Ramsammy committed the alleged offenses.
At approximately 1:15 p.m. on April 16, Ramsammy was escorted from an interview room to a jail cell and taken into custody.
He has been charged with aggravated assault under the Georgia Family Violence Act, cruelty to children in the second degree, and violation of oath of office. Authorities said additional charges may be forthcoming.
Ramsammy was denied bond at his first appearance hearing and remains in the Spalding County Jail.
“I tell every Deputy I hire that on occasion there are only certain ways to say things to get your point across,” Sheriff Dix said. “I follow that with the fact that the badge they wear covers about six square inches of their chest and none of their ass. Don’t break the law or do dumb stuff and think your badge is going to get you out of it.”
The investigation remains ongoing.
