LOGANVILLE, Ga. — A suspect has been arrested in connection with the 2025 killing of a CVS employee in Loganville, police said.

On April 13, 2026, officers with the Loganville Police Department and Gwinnett County Police SWAT arrested 28-year-old Evander Derrell Choates of Loganville in connection with the death of 62-year-old Kimberly Loveless Whaley.

Whaley, a pharmacy technician, was shot on November 14, 2025, in the parking lot of a CVS located at Highway 78 and Conyers Road. Investigators said she had just arrived for her shift when she was shot in the head.

She was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, where she died two days later.

Authorities said Whaley had worked at the CVS location for seven years.

Choates has been charged with felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He was booked into the Walton County Jail.

Investigators said Choates was identified as a suspect early in the case, but additional time was needed to gather evidence and build the case before making an arrest.

Police have not released a motive, noting that nothing was taken from the victim and the incident does not appear to be a robbery.

Officials described the investigation as complex and lengthy, but said detectives remained committed to pursuing justice for Whaley’s family.
