Reckless Driver Arrested After Pursuit and Struggle in South Augusta; Deputy Injured

RICHMOND COUNTY, Ga. — A reckless driving call in South Augusta led to a police pursuit and arrest Saturday morning, with one deputy sustaining minor injuries.

Deputies with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office were alerted around 10:58 a.m. on April 4th to a driver traveling east on Tobacco Road who was reportedly hanging out of the vehicle.

A deputy located the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver fled, initiating a pursuit. The chase ended in the 2200 block of Travis Road.

Authorities said the driver failed to comply with commands, leading to a brief struggle during the arrest. An officer deployed a taser in order to get the suspect under control. One deputy suffered minor knee injuries and was taken for medical evaluation.

The driver was taken into custody and transported to the Charles B. Webster Detention Center. He was identified as 42-year-old David Niran McMahon.

Charges include Reckless Driving, Felony Obstruction, Misdemeanor Fleeing, and Driving with a Suspended License.
