One Dead, Teen Injured in Shooting at Atlanta’s Piedmont Park
ATLANTA, Ga. — One person was killed and a teenager injured in a shooting inside Piedmont Park Saturday night, according to Atlanta Police.
Officers with Zone 5 responded around 9:03 p.m. on April 4 to reports of gunfire inside the park. Upon arrival, they found two female victims suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
Emergency personnel pronounced one woman dead at the scene. A 15-year-old victim was found alert and breathing and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Police said a permitted festival had ended earlier in the evening on the opposite side of the park around 7:45 p.m., and at this time, there is no indication the shooting is connected to that event.
Preliminary information suggests the shooting stemmed from an unpermitted gathering near the far west end of the park.
Atlanta Police Homicide Unit investigators are actively working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The investigation remains ongoing
