MACON, Georgia – Macon-Bibb County leaders have issued the fifth round of annual incentive pay for long-serving public safety employees, continuing a program first approved in 2021 under Mayor Lester Miller and the County Commission.

On January 23, eligible employees received the latest incentive payout, totaling $1,857,000 distributed to 438 public safety workers. Since the program began, Macon-Bibb has invested $9,340,500 in additional pay for its most experienced public safety personnel.

The incentive program applies to employees in the Fire Department, Sheriff’s Office, Emergency Management Agency, E-911, Lake Tobesofkee Rangers, and Civil Court Sheriffs. Payments are issued each January based on years of service completed as of December 31 of the prior year.

“Public safety has been and remains a top priority for my administration and the Commission, and one way to improve that is by retaining the people who continue to protect our community,” Mayor Miller said. “We are making the investment in them, and we hope this will help attract people to join our team and keep us all safer.”
