Deputy Motorist Assist Turns Into Multi-County Chase, Dawson Woman Arrested

CRISP COUNTY, Ga. – A routine motorist assist escalated into a multi-county pursuit Tuesday afternoon, ending with the arrest of a 26-year-old Dawson woman and the seizure of suspected drugs, a firearm, and other evidence, according to the Crisp County Sheriff’s Office.

At about 3:45 p.m. Jan. 21, a Crisp County deputy stopped to check on a vehicle that appeared disabled with emergency flashers activated on Old Albany Road near McKinney Road in Cordele. The driver, later identified as Mykera Jones, was found asleep inside the vehicle, authorities said.

During the encounter, the deputy detected the odor of marijuana and determined Jones did not have a valid driver’s license and had multiple outstanding warrants. When the deputy asked Jones to step out of the vehicle, she fled southbound on Old Albany Road toward Highway 300 at a high rate of speed, prompting a pursuit.

The chase continued into Worth County, where assistance from the Warwick Police Department led to Jones being located and taken into custody at a local gas station.

After the arrest, deputies searched the vehicle and recovered suspected narcotics, a large amount of U.S. currency, multiple debit cards belonging to different individuals, several cell phones, blank checks, a laptop, and a firearm with ammunition, officials said.

Jones was transported to the Crisp County Jail. She faces multiple charges, including fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, three counts of financial transaction card theft, possession of a Schedule I controlled substance, obstructing law enforcement, driving under the influence, reckless driving, driving with a suspended license, and several traffic violations.

The incident remains under investigation.
