FORSYTH, GA – Monroe County investigators arrested a Forsyth man Wednesday following a drug investigation at a local motel that uncovered multiple narcotics and a firearm.

According to investigators, deputies responded to the Travelodge in Forsyth on January 7, 2026, after receiving a report of suspected drug activity. Upon arrival, investigators made contact with Ellis Zellner, 62, of Forsyth.

During the encounter, investigators noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from a bag Zellner was carrying. When questioned about the contents, Zellner fled on foot but was quickly apprehended a short distance away.

A subsequent investigation led to Zellner being charged with multiple offenses, including possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of methamphetamine, crack cocaine, and ecstasy, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, possession of drug-related objects, and obstruction.

Investigators also noted Zellner was already out on bond for previous drug-related arrests dating back to July and September of 2024.
