Gilmer County Deputies Search for Armed, Dangerous Felon, Need Public’s Help

Northwest Georgia – The Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office is actively searching for 40-year-old Terry Franklin Turner, a convicted felon with an active arrest warrant for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon (OCGA 16-11-131).

On Friday, December 26, 2025, deputies responded to multiple calls regarding a male acting erratically while carrying a rifle. Witnesses reported that Turner fired the weapon and was chasing wildlife. Despite an extensive search, deputies have not been able to locate him.

Turner has been reported on foot in areas including Nugget Lane, Pebble Court, Woodridge & Oak Ridge, Cameron Drive, and the Tails Creek Road/Highway 282 corridor. He has been seen moving through yards, driveways, wooded areas, and near residences.

Authorities caution the public not to approach Turner. Anyone aiding or abetting him will face criminal charges. Anyone who sees Turner or knows his whereabouts is urged to contact Gilmer Dispatch immediately at 911 or 706-635-8911.
