Wrong-Way Crash on GA 10 Inner Loop Leaves Two Dead, Two Critically Injured

ATHENS, GA – Two people were killed and several others injured early Sunday morning after a wrong-way crash on the GA 10 Inner Loop in Athens-Clarke County.

At approximately 12:08 a.m. on December 21, 2025, ACCPD responded to reports of a vehicle traveling the wrong direction on the Inner Loop near Chase Street. Moments later, officers received a report of a major crash near the Oglethorpe Avenue exit.

The preliminary investigation determined that a 2021 Kia Seltos, driven by a 26-year-old woman from Lawrenceville, was traveling the wrong way on Inner Loop 10. While driving against traffic, the Kia first struck a 2021 Mercedes-Benz, then collided with a 2020 Ford Expedition. After those impacts, the Kia continued traveling the wrong direction and struck a 2017 Toyota Camry head-on.

Following the collision with the Toyota, the Kia came to rest on the cable barriers and became engulfed in flames.

The driver of the Toyota, a 25-year-old man from Athens, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the Toyota was transported to a local hospital, where they remain in critical condition. The driver of the Kia also sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene, while a passenger in the Kia was taken to a local hospital and is listed in critical condition.

Occupants of the Mercedes-Benz and the Ford Expedition suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

This crash marks the eighth fatal crash in Athens-Clarke County in 2025, resulting in a total of ten traffic-related deaths this year.
