U.S. Marshals Arrest Suspect in 2023 Atlanta Double Homicide, Awaiting Extradition

ATLANTA, Ga. – Authorities have made arrests in a double homicide that occurred on April 20, 2023, in northwest Atlanta.

The Incidents
On the morning of April 20, 2023, around 6:00 a.m., Zone 1 units responded to a shooting at 2030 Main Street NW. Officers discovered a male victim with multiple gunshot wounds who was pronounced dead at the scene by Grady EMS. Almost simultaneously, officers responded to another shooting at 2479 Abner Terrace, where another male victim was found and transported to the hospital, later succumbing to his injuries.

Homicide detectives responded to both locations and determined the incidents were connected. A vehicle linked to both shootings was recovered at 1591 Abner Terrace. The investigation into the circumstances of the shootings remains active and ongoing.

Arrests
On June 14, 2023, 21-year-old John’Kevious Anderson was taken into custody by the Georgia State Patrol during a traffic stop. Anderson faces charges of Malice Murder, Felony Murder, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, Entering Auto, and Tampering with Evidence.

On December 5, 2025, 20-year-old Kmauri Burnett was apprehended by U.S. Marshals in Duluth, Minnesota. He was wanted for the homicides and carjacking. Burnett is awaiting extradition to Atlanta and faces the same charges as Anderson.

Authorities continue to investigate the incidents and have not released additional details regarding the motive or circumstances surrounding the shootings.
