Murder suspect arrested in connection with July 4th Sparkle Avenue homicide in Macon

Bibb County, GA – On Monday morning, November 3, just before 11:00 a.m., members of the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested 24-year-old Michael Winston Burney Jr. without incident. Burney was taken to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center, where he is being held without bond. His bond for unrelated charges was set at $27,500.

Burney is charged with murder in connection with the death of 24-year-old Contrell Dixon.

According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, the investigation stems from an aggravated assault that occurred on July 4, 2025, on Sparkle Avenue. The case was upgraded to a homicide after Coroner Leon Jones confirmed that Dixon died from his injuries.

Investigators obtained felony murder warrants for both Burney, of Gray, and 19-year-old Dontavis Anquan Jackson, of Macon. Jackson’s warrant for felony murder was previously served at the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division continues to investigate the case.
