Child Witnesses Tragic Murder-Suicide in Flowery Branch
FLOWERY BRANCH, GA – A tragic murder-suicide in Flowery Branch left a Gainesville woman dead Saturday afternoon after a man fatally shot her and then took his own life, according to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO). A nine-year-old child was inside the home during the shooting but was physically unharmed.
Deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 5400 block of Bushnell Court just before 3 p.m. on November 1, 2025. When they arrived, they found the 50-year-old female victim dead at the doorway of the home. The 51-year-old male suspect was discovered deceased in the basement from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
According to investigators, the child witnessed the shooting and hid in an upstairs bedroom closet. She managed to contact a friend through FaceTime, and the friend’s parents called 911 after learning what had happened.
The investigation determined that the victim had been shot multiple times before the suspect turned the gun on himself. Authorities have not yet released their names pending notification of out-of-state next of kin.
The Department of Family and Children’s Services (DFCS) was contacted to assist with the child’s care, and she has since been placed with a relative.
The investigation remains active as HCSO continues gathering evidence to determine the circumstances leading up to the shooting.
