Atlanta Man Charged After Fatally Shooting His Son During Argument
Atlanta Police say a family dispute turned deadly early Thursday morning when a father allegedly shot and killed his son outside an apartment complex in Buckhead.
Around 12:22 a.m. on October 30, 2025, officers from Zone 2 responded to a report of a dispute at 55 Pharr Rd. NW, in the Peachtree Heights West area. When officers arrived, they spoke with a 32-year-old woman who had been arguing with her boyfriend. Police say the woman called her boyfriend’s father to help de-escalate the situation.
When the 54-year-old father, Durante Tolliver, arrived, he and his son left the area in a vehicle. According to arrest warrants, once they got inside the car, the son slammed his door, and Tolliver told him to step out of the vehicle to calm down. The two were standing about 10 to 15 feet apart when Tolliver reportedly assumed his son was reaching for a gun in his waistband. Investigators say Tolliver then fired roughly 12 shots, striking and killing his son.
Officers heard the gunfire while still speaking with the girlfriend and rushed to the parking lot, where they found the 32-year-old victim dead from his injuries. Tolliver was detained at the scene.
He has been charged with Murder, Aggravated Assault, and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony.
Police say the investigation remains active, and the details released so far are preliminary and could change as the case develops.
