Macon Man Sentenced to 20 Years for Fatal 2021 Lake Tobesofkee Boating Crash
Defendant: Eric Head

MACON, Ga. – Eric Head, 61, was sentenced Thursday, October 30, to 20 years in prison, the maximum, for his role in a 2021 boating collision on Lake Tobesofkee that killed 22-year-old William Childs and injured six others.

Head was convicted on six charges: two counts of homicide by vessel, two counts of serious injury by vessel, reckless operation of a vessel, and operating a vessel under the influence.

District Attorney Anita Howard said the verdict brings closure to the families affected. “This verdict and sentence brings a measure of justice for Will Childs and his family, for Averie Hopkins, and for all those whose lives were forever changed by this defendant’s reckless and intoxicated operation of his vessel,” Howard said. “We pray this outcome provides some closure to the victims and serves as a stark reminder that operating any vehicle or vessel while impaired, whether on land or water, can have devastating and deadly consequences.”
