Macon Man Killed After Allegedly Attacking Deputy at Circle K, GBI Investigates

MACON, Georgia – The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are investigating a deputy-involved shooting that occurred early Thursday, October 30, 2025, at the Circle K located at 4775 Chambers Road.

The deceased has been identified as Zachary Aaron Ward, 28, of Macon, Georgia. Preliminary information indicates that at approximately 12:10 a.m., deputies were dispatched to the store after reports of a man acting erratically and harassing customers. When deputies arrived, they encountered Ward, who reportedly attempted to attack a deputy with a screwdriver. The deputy discharged their firearm, striking Ward. Deputies and Paramedics responded to the scene to render aid to Ward. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Ward’s body will be taken to the Central Crime Lab in Macon for an autopsy.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation will conduct an independent investigation of the incident. Once the investigation is complete, the case file will be submitted to the Macon Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review.

No other injuries were reported. Investigators are asking anyone with information in reference to this incident to contact the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500 and ask to speak with an investigator. The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Internal Affairs Division will also conduct a separate review of the incident.
