Deavian and Julian Netters

Lawrenceville, Ga. – A Gwinnett County jury on Friday evening, October 24th, found Deavian Jasiri-Teeir Netters, 25, guilty of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony for the April 2021 shooting death of 37-year-old Shaquon Anthony McKensey.

His brother, Julian Patrick Netters, Jr., 24, was found guilty of felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Both were sentenced to life in prison plus five years.

“We hope that this outcome brings solace and healing to the family and loved ones of Shaquon McKensey,” said District Attorney Patsy Austin-Gatson. “This was a violent incident that has no place in our community, and we are grateful to the jury for this verdict.”

The incident occurred in the early morning of April 24, 2021. The Netters brothers had gone to a Lawrenceville hookah lounge, where they encountered McKensey, who was visiting from Gainesville and celebrating a birthday with friends. Around 1:30 a.m., Deavian Netters left the lounge to wait in the parking lot near his car. Forty minutes later, Julian Netters exited and joined him.

Surveillance footage played at trial showed the brothers and another unidentified person following McKensey’s group after they left the lounge. The video then captured Deavian Netters firing an assault rifle, striking McKensey. The brothers and the third individual fled the scene.

Investigators later recovered the weapon at the Netters’ home. ATF analysts confirmed that DNA found on the rifle’s trigger matched Deavian Netters.

Managing Assistant District Attorneys Christopher Huslak and Angela Mattozzi prosecuted the case with assistance from DA’s Investigator Dennis Hennelly and Victim Witness Advocate Chelsey Thomas.
