Firefighters Battle Two-Story Office Fire in Buford; One Firefighter Injured

(Buford, Ga.) – Gwinnett County firefighters responded to a major commercial fire Saturday evening in the 4500 block of Nelson Brogdon Boulevard after multiple 911 callers reported flames coming from Benchmark Physical Therapy.

Firefighters arrived around 7:17 p.m. to find heavy fire coming from the roof and attic area of a two-story office building. Crews deployed hose lines to attack the fire while search teams entered the business to ensure no one was inside.

During operations, the roof collapsed, forcing crews to evacuate the building and shift to a defensive strategy. Two ladder trucks and multiple hose lines were used to bring the blaze under control. Once the bulk of the fire was knocked down, firefighters re-entered the building to fully extinguish remaining hot spots.

The fire was declared under control at 7:42 p.m. One firefighter sustained minor injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital.

Fire investigators determined the blaze originated in the attic, but the cause remains undetermined. The business keyholder told officials the office had been closed since the previous day.

Responding resources included four engines, two ladder trucks, one squad, one medical unit, one medical supervisor, three command units, one air and light unit, one HazMat unit, one fire inspector, and one public information officer. HazMat-20 also assisted with drone operations to assess the roof collapse.
