Atlanta Police Officer Seriously Injured After Patrol Car Crashes Into Home, Catches Fire
ATLANTA, GA – An Atlanta Police Department Zone 1 patrol officer was seriously injured Monday night after his vehicle crashed into a home while responding to a call for assistance.
According to preliminary reports, the crash happened around 8:15 p.m. on October 20, 2025, near 560 James P. Brawley Drive NW. Investigators say the officer was driving to back up another officer when his patrol car left the roadway and struck a residence.
The impact caused a fire, which was quickly extinguished by the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department. Several nearby residents rushed to help, pulling the injured officer from the wrecked vehicle before emergency crews arrived.
The officer, identified as Malik Saif, was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. Police say he is recovering and remains under medical care.
Fortunately, there was one person inside the home at the time of the crash, but they were not injured.
The Georgia State Patrol (GSP) is leading the investigation into the crash to determine what caused the patrol vehicle to veer off the road.
Officer Saif joined the Atlanta Police Department in May 2024, was sworn in that December, and is currently assigned to Zone 1 Field Operations Division.
In a statement, Atlanta Police asked the media and public to respect Officer Saif’s privacy and that of his family and colleagues as he continues to recover.
